Biography
Tim
Smith, 46 years old, was born in Clinton, Maryland, a small town
just outside the District of Colombia. The town was originally
named Surrattsville, named after Mary Suratt, implicated in the
Lincoln assasination (she was later vindicated - after they hung
her ...oops!). Tim has two older brothers and a younger sister,
Susan (special assistant to the Governor of Maryland). Tim went
to college at Towson State Unniversity 1974-1978, studying business.
After arriving in Fort Lauderdale in 1979, Tim met his future
wife Cindy (they've now been together for 24 years). They added
to their family 10 years later with the addition of their pride
and joy, Timmy (no junior), now a seventh grader at Sunrise Middle
School.
Tim and Cindy are self-employed entrepreneurs. They have owned
a landscaping firm (T.L.C.'s Greenery) for 21 years as well as
numerous pieces of rental real estate throughout District II.
They also were the original owners of the downtown delicatessan
Delicious Deliveries (now gone).
Tim's political career was born out of his passion in fixing
neighborhood problems. Tim organized and started three neighborhood
organizations in District II. They include Middle River Terrace,
Flagler Heights, and Progresso International (recently annexed
by Middle River Terrace.) Encouraged by successes in eradicating
blight and crime in those neighborhoods, Tim decided to try for
the big enchilada, the Fort Lauderdale City Commission. To his
complete amazement, he won ... Tim says he'll work tirelessly
to rid District II of crime, bring redevelopment to those areas
in need, and continue to protect the beach and near beach neighborhoods
from over-development.
